New multimedia platform aims to educate and empower communities about the connections between environmental health and human well-being.
Winston-Salem, NC — Salus Integrative Psychiatry, PLLC is pleased to announce the launch of Salus Gaia: Healing People, Healing Planet, a multimedia educational platform dedicated to exploring the vital connections between human health, environmental stewardship, and community well-being.
Through a growing presence on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, a newsletter, a podcast, and a dedicated blog, Salus Gaia will provide accessible, evidence-based information on environmental issues that directly affect public health. Topics will include air, water, and noise pollution; pesticide exposure; PFAS and other "forever chemicals"; habitat and biodiversity loss; urban development; climate change; and the health impacts of emerging technologies and infrastructure.
The project seeks to bridge an important information gap. While environmental threats are increasingly recognized as public health concerns, few sources provide scientifically grounded information that clearly explains how environmental conditions influence mental and physical health, as well as community resilience.
"Many of the same forces harming pollinators, wildlife, and ecosystems are also affecting human health," said Siham Muntasser, MD, psychiatrist and founder of Salus Integrative Psychiatry. "What is killing the monarch butterflies is also harming us. The same chemicals contaminating our environment are finding their way into our water, our food, and ultimately into the lives of our children and grandchildren."
The launch comes at a time when environmental factors are increasingly recognized as drivers of chronic disease, mental health challenges, and health inequities. Air pollution has been linked to cardiovascular disease, respiratory illness, and depression. Climate-related disasters contribute to anxiety, trauma, and displacement. Biodiversity loss and declining access to nature can negatively affect both physical and psychological well-being.
Salus Gaia will also highlight positive solutions and local success stories, including conservation efforts, native plant initiatives, pollinator protection, dark-sky preservation, watershed stewardship, urban forestry, and community-based approaches to resilience. Partnerships with local organizations, educators, healthcare professionals, and environmental advocates will be central to the platform's mission.
The name Salus Gaia reflects the project's philosophy. In Roman mythology, Salus was the goddess of health, well-being, and public welfare. In Greek mythology, Gaia was the primordial goddess of the Earth and all living things. Together, they symbolize a simple but powerful truth: human health and planetary health are deeply interconnected.
"Healthy communities depend on healthy ecosystems," Dr. Muntasser said. "Salus Gaia is about helping people understand that protecting our rivers, forests, pollinators, and biodiversity is not only an environmental issue—it is a public health imperative. By connecting science, health, and community action, we hope to inspire meaningful change and a healthier future for all."
